Exploring the Eastern Cape

Just last week I took my very first grown up leave – the harsh reality that month-long varsity holidays are no longer a reality! Planning holidays has now become something done with greatest of care, however when you get the chance to see your best friend for a whole week, you don’t second guess using some of your few treasured days of leave to visit her! After a long 8 hour drive we finally arrived in Barkly East, a tiny little town in the Eastern Cape that has the privilege of having my best friend ,as a guest for a year, while she completes her Occupational Therapy community service year.

After 2 short days in Barkly we headed to Chintsa at the coast and later to Hole in the Wall – being able to experience all the beauty of the Transkei.

I haven’t really explored the Eastern Cape, so this holiday was a brand new adventure, offering new sights and experiences – including very diverse climates. Going from snow storms to warm beach weather in the space of 24 hours, I’m not sure I’ve ever played in the snow and swum in the sea in the same week! Luckily I was armed with my camera (and both cool and warm clothes) throughout it all, snapping up the experiences and memories.

As the old adage goes, time flies when you’re having fun, and this was sadly true for the holiday, as the week flew by far too quickly. Before I knew it I was back in the swing of things and reminiscing of beach days while wrapping up with scarves and heating up my hot water bottle.
So, flashback to the past week with these snaps from the trip. Enjoy!
